What makes a great paper?

In this session we will discuss how to craft a good publishable paper to an international academic journal. We will share what is important to avoid in academic research to keep the quality of a paper at an international standard.

Elements of writing style

In this session we will discuss how to write the literature review. What types of literature review scholars use depending on the nature of their research?

Titles and abstracts

The title and abstract play important role in the visibility of an academic paper. Properly chosen title and abstract significantly increase the readership of the paper. This session will help participants develop good title and abstract for their paper.

From introduction to conclusion

This session will help participants understand the structure of an academic paper from the title to the last reference. We will look at specific examples from various interdisciplinary journals as case studies

Where to find data for research?

This session will help scholars identify various internet sources and databases that could be used to conduct academic research in social sciences. We will explore particular published papers that have used these databases as a source of data.

Qualitative vs. Quantitative data

This session will help scholars understand the differences between qualitative and quantitative research. In addition, we will help scholars identify what type of data is required for their particular research.

Data management

This session will teach participants data management techniques, software tools and online platforms that exists for their research. We will discuss the importance of data management in the long-term perspective.

Data presentation

This session will help scholars gain good skills in presenting the results of their research based on the requirements of academic journals and from the grounds of increasing outreach of their research.

Authorship and authors’ responsibilities

This session will help participants understand what are the roles of co-authors of the research, how the work should be organized between co-authors to maximize the chances of paper being published.

Selecting a journal for publication

Selecting right journal is an important task of publication process. It is important that working paper meets the goals and objectives of a journal. This session will help scholars fine tune their skills in selecting journal for their research.

Submitting your paper

This session will show how to submit a working paper to major publishing outlets such as ScienceDirect, Wiley, Springer and Taylor and Francis. This is an important technical session for younger scholars.

Understanding peer review

This session will help scholars understand the process of peer review, the role of editor and referees in reviewing the academic paper. We will explore the stages of peer review in an academic journal.

In this session we will review various decisions that exist in peer review process. We will also see examples of feedback that referees and editors may give for submitted papers.

The editorial process
